Brooklyn Nets Vs. Boston Celtics – Game 2, Playoffs

Brooklyn Nets Vs. Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics host the Brooklyn Nets at the TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, April 20, for Game 2 of the playoffs. Boston finished 2nd in the Eastern Conference Standings, whereas the Nets finished in 7th place.

Boston started the season with poor results but has managed to turn their fortunes, sitting in the 2nd position in the Eastern Conference. In their last game, they defeated the Memphis Grizzlies with a final score of 139-110 to get to that spot.

The Brooklyn Nets finished 7th after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers by a 115-108 scoreline in the play-in opener. The Nets booked a berth in the playoffs due to this win and are scheduled to face a defensively solid Celtics.

Reviews of their previous games

Both teams registered wins in their previous games and are now into the playoffs facing each other in a best-of-seven game series. The first game of this series will take place on Boston’s home court as fans of both teams expect stiff competition.

Before we go into the details of this game, let us look at their most recent games that led to this match-up.

Brooklyn Nets Vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

The Nets were standing in 10th position when the Cleveland Cavaliers visited them at the Barclays Center in New York.  After this game, the Nets were able to force their way into the playoff finals.

The Brooklyn Nets won the game 115-108 after another inspired performance from Kyrie Irving. Since the return of Kyrie to the Nets team, they have been on a winning roll and have delivered excellent results.

The Nets boast of some of the best superstars in the league with the likes of Kyrie Irving, Drummond, Kevin Durant, etc. They have good young players, too, who complement the gameplay of these superstars.

Kyrie and Durant both contributed largely to the final score with 34 points and 25 points, respectively. They even made 23 assists together that saw them see off the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Nets took the lead in the first quarter with a massive margin of 20 points and kept the Cavaliers at bay for most of the game.

This consistency of maintaining the lead in that game earned them a spot in the playoffs, where they will face the Boston Celtics, the 2nd seeded team in the Eastern Conference.

The Brooklyn Nets were initially spurred on to be the leaders in the Eastern Conference, but they fell short as they suffered significant setbacks. Kyrie’s suspension because of the Covid-19 protocols also struck a massive blow to the Brooklyn camp.

With the pairing of KD and Kyrie Irving in the Nets team, they look more like the team everyone expected them to be at the start of the season.

Boston Celtics Vs. Memphis Grizzlies

On Sunday night, the Celtics travelled to Memphis to face the Grizzlies in their last regular-season game. They came away with a win over the Grizzlies with a comfortable scoreline of 139-110, which secured them the second seed in the Eastern Conference Standings.

Their highest scorers were Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown, with 31 and 18 points each. A win over Memphis meant that the second spot was theirs to take no matter what happened to the other teams around them on the table.

One can argue that the Grizzlies fielded a weakened team as their standings in the Western Conference were already sealed with the second spot. Memphis rested out most of their regular starters in this game with an eye already on the playoffs.

On the other hand, Boston has to win this game anyhow to get that second spot in the Eastern Conference. Other teams like Philly and Milwaukee were also fighting for the second spot. Only a win could secure them the second position, and success is what they achieved.

Their campaign for the second spot was partly helped by the fact that Memphis fielded a weakened team. Boston led at the end of the first half by a margin of 72-49, making it the most points given away by the Grizzlies this season. They continued to maintain the same consistency in the third quarter.

The Boston Celtics had a comfortable win in the end against a relaxed Memphis side, and both sets of teams were already thinking about the post-season games at the end.

Brooklyn Vs. Boston – Preview

Looking at this playoff series, many people are tipping off the Boston Celtics to snatch the win against Brooklyn. These games may look simple due to their positions on the table, but it is far more complicated than a case of standings.

This fixture is usually a tale of the Nets being the favorites over Boston. This season, the Brooklyn Nets have surprised everyone by starting poorly and losing games at home and away. They were also missing their star players because of injuries and suspensions.

The same can’t be said about the Boston Celtics, as they exceeded expectations after a poor start. They have one of the best defenses in the league and are efficient when they attack. They have a significant percentage of outscoring their opponents when they have possession.

Though the stats suggest that the Celtics are the far superior side, they will not have an easy time against the Nets. They ended up in the 7th seed because of the absence of their star players.

Now that the likes of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are playing together, they will be on a different level. There is also a good chance of people seeing the much-hyped Ben Simmons making his debut.
