UFC Fight Night: Ketlen Viera Vs. Misha Tate

UFC 43 in Vegas was another spectacular event for the fans. The return of Misha Tate, the former Bantamweight champion, got all the fans excited. She took on Ketlen Viera on the night, and the main event did not disappoint. The main card was also stacked with excellent fighters in the UFC, and like always, the UFC event in Las Vegas had some fantastic fights.

So if you want to know more about it, here are the details of the night.

The main event

Jumping right into the main event, this was the perfect Bantamweight bought. Ketlen Viera is already making waves in the division. She has an impressive MMA record of 11-2-0. She is currently ranked 7th in the division and ready to prove that she is a serious contender for the title.

Misha Tate is no stranger in the division. She was the Bantamweight champion and is still one of the toughest fighters in the division. But this fight was different because she took along five years lay off. So coming into the fight was always going to be tricky. Nonetheless, she put on a show and went to five whole rounds.

The first round took off fast, with both fighters engaging with strikes. Viera instantly found her range and kept landing her strikes early on. Misha kept the pressure and moved forward but couldn’t counter it. That made things complicated in the first round, and it went Veira’s way.

The second and third rounds were spectacular. They both stepped it up, and punches were swinging. So not a lot was happening on the ground where Misha excels. But by then, Misha had taken a lot of damage to her face. Although she landed a couple, it wasn’t enough to cause any significant damage to Viera.

By the fourth round, the exhaustion looked evident on both fighters. But they kept swinging and kicking. Misha looked the busier towards the final rounds. But Viera kept hitting her accurately, and that made a huge difference. As the fifth round drew closer, the punches and jabs by Viera left Misha’s face and nose bloodied.

The fifth round was close. It was another classic main event fight that had the fans on edge. But Viera’s spectacular performance was enough to give her a unanimous decision to win on the night.

The main card

Apart from the main event, the main card took off with Davey Grant Vs. Adrian Yanez from the men’s Bantamweight division. Both fighters went all three rounds and put on a show for the fans. But a split decision by the judges saw Adrain Yanez take the win on the night.

Rani Yahya also took on Kyung Ho Kang in the same division. They also went all rounds with both fighters unable to finish the other. But a dominant performance by Rani saw him win via unanimous decision.

In the women’s Flyweight division, Joanne Calderwood took on Taila Santos. It was an exciting fight because it was the first fight for Joanne since her marriage, and Taila was more active during that period. But Taila always looked the favorite given her impressive MMA record of 19-1-0, and it proved to be so on the night. She submitted Calderwood with a rear-naked choke at 4:49 of the first round.

Michael Chiesa Vs. Sean Brady was the co-main event of the evening. Both the welterweight fighters fought all three rounds. The odds favored Sean, who came in undefeated in the match with a record of 15-0-0. Although he could not finish Chiesa early, he dominated the rounds, and it was enough to extend his win record to 16-0-0. He won via unanimous decision on the night.
