UFC fight night was nothing less than spectacular in Las Vegas, an evening of stacked cards with some of the best UFC fighters! UFC fight night 42 had all the fans excited, and it did not disappoint. Everything building up to the fight promised a spectacular match, and despite coming off a two-year layoff, Yair Rodriguez gave a fantastic performance.

The main event

Holloway Vs. Rodriguez was a perfect matchup. Both fighters are well known for their unique capabilities, and the fans expected fireworks in the octagon. Everything you expect from a fight was delivered, and both fighters put on a show. Elbows, punches, kicks, takedowns, submission attempts, you name it.

As the fight progressed, both fighters had their moments. Rodriguez is known for his power punches capable of knocking opponents out, and these shots come out of nowhere. Although Holloway knew about it and tried to avoid them, some of them landed, and it looked as though the fight would stop. But he’s been there before, and he showed what it takes to recover from a blow.

The first round saw an astonishing number of significant strikes from both fighters. It was a total of ninety-nine strikes, and there was plenty of action. Surprisingly, Rodriguez was landing the shots more.

Holloway may not have landed enough shots to bother Rodriguez. But his fantastic cardio record over the years keeps him going as the rounds progress, and he starts to take control of the fight. Both of them were cut and bloodied; neither was going to give up easily. But Holloway kept the pressure going and landed his strikes strategically.

Rodriquez is no doubt a tough fighter. But on the night, it was the experience and the cardio of Holloway that made the difference. It was another unanimous decision win for the former champ Max Holloway.

The main card

The main card had five fights. Excluding the main event match, the other fights had some excellent moments. It took one minute for the Brazilian Marcos Rogerio de Lima to unleash his power and defeat Ben Rothwell via TKO in the first round. It’s always a risk trying to empty the tank early in the fight, but he made it all worthwhile.

In the women’s featherweight division Felicia Spencer defeated Leah Letson via TKO in the third round. As expected, she dominated the fight and took her opponent down early. Leah could not do much as she got smothered throughout the rounds until finally, she gave it away.

Khaos Williams also defeated Miguel Baeza in the third round via TKO. Khaos is well known for his powerful striking, and he stepped it up against Baeza. He started landing kicks early on, and the strikes kept coming. In the third round, he landed an excellent combo and dropped Baeza. The referee intervened before any further damage. That now makes it 4-1 for Khaos in his UFC career.

Song Yadong took on Julio Arce, and it was a fantastic show of what he can do in the octagon. Arce has more experience, and as expected, the first round was pretty quiet with not a lot of activity from him. But as soon as the bell rang for the second round, Song made his move and started to pressure him. A fantastic combo of kicks and punches put Arce down on the mat, and he could not do anything. The referee stopped the fight, and it was another impressive win for the promising Chinese fighter in the UFC.
